Peeling Paint
The mast poles on our shipwreck started to get light and lighter, even with the algae coating that was starting to form. We took the wreck out of the tank to scrub it down with everything else only to find the paint had been peeling off the masts the entire time!
Google wasn’t able to tell us if our fish would die from eating paint (although over half of them died within the next two weeks – paint might have been a contributing factor), but we took no chances and did not put the $10 piece of plastic back in our water.
Not only did it have the possibility of being bad for our fish, but also it didn’t look pretty anymore. The masts were bone white with some leftover flecks of color.
Broken Pieces
Although we were not a victim of the broken masts upon arrival, three of the five reviews on Amazon at the time this article was written complained of their shipwreck being broken upon arrival.
Product Features
- Can be in fresh or saltwater
- Provides shelter for fish
- Product dimensions: 8.7 x 5.5 x 5.9 inches
What do the people think?
The Aquatic Creations Sunken Shipwreck currently has five ratings and an overall score of 2.7 stars out of 5 stars.
Two of the five customers did not seem to have any problems with the wreck at the time of the review. One customer said, “Arrived perfect and it looks just like the picture.” Granted, our shipwreck seemed perfect at first, until a few weeks later when it lost its color – quite possibly to my fishes’ tummies!
Another customer said, “Arrived broken in 3 different places, very unsatisfied with this.” This sentiment seems to echo the other two negative reviews.
Save your money!
In the end, I do NOT recommend this shipwreck. It is beautiful and the perfect size, but the peeling paint and potential breakage during shipping make this little boat not worth the cost. You are better off using that $10 towards buying something of better quality.
